Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo, better known as “Don Neto” and one of the founders of the Guadalajara Cartel, has initiated legal action against the Mexican state to recover assets and financial resources seized since 1985. This action comes after he served a 40-year sentence for his involvement in the murder of DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena and pilot Alfredo Zavala.
After being released on April 5, 2025, at the age of 95, Fonseca Carrillo filed an appeal seeking to have the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) lift the freeze on his bank accounts and other assets seized at the time of his arrest.
He also requested that the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV), through its Preventive Processes Supervision, ensure that the responsible banks calculate the exact amount to be refunded, according to information revealed by Reforma. The district judge in Mexico City decided not to admit the injunction because Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo had already filed a complaint on the same issue before a Collegiate Court in Criminal Matters.
