The corrido tumbados star has also made history in the fashion world. Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija, known as Peso Pluma, has been named an ambassador for the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) for New York Fashion Week, which begins this Thursday, September 11.
This is the first time a Mexican has been part of the Council, according to Billboard. The appointment adds to his list of personal achievements, such as winning a Grammy, being the most-streamed artist on YouTube in 2024, and headlining the Coachella festival, to name a few. The Guadalajara native will participate in the opening of the Spring/Summer 2026 season alongside CFDA President Thom Browne, designers Michael Kors and Ana Sui, Egyptian model Anok Yai, and Puerto Rican rapper Young Miko.
The CFDA is a non-profit association founded in 1962 by influential fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert (1903-2003), a pioneer in organizing events to recognize American designers, and responsible for the creation of the Met Gala in 1946. According to The New York Times, the creation of the CFDA was an attempt to bring together frequently opposing designers to speak with one voice on issues that affected them and thus increase their prestige.
