Seven Alaskan Children Abandoned by Their Father in Yucatán Rescued

Last Friday, August 29, officers from the Yucatán State Public Security Secretariat (SSP) rescued seven children, ages six months to 11 years old, who were alone in a home located in the Residencial Solana neighborhood, west of Mérida.

The children were located after a missing person report was filed by their mother, who accused her partner of abducting them following a family dispute.

According to the official report, the children’s mother, originally from Alaska, United States, like the children’s father, told the Public Prosecutor’s Office that she had been the victim of physical violence by her partner during an argument.

After requesting protective measures, the woman left her home in the port of Chelem, Progreso municipality. However, upon returning, she discovered that her children were no longer there.

Concerned about the children’s whereabouts, the woman received reports that they might be in a hotel north of Mérida. When she went to the hotel, the hotel staff denied her any information, so she decided to seek assistance from the SSP and the State Attorney General’s Office. Thanks to investigative work and citizen reports, authorities located the children on a property in the Residencial Solana neighborhood.
