Florinda Meza’s Statue in Zacatecas Is Protected After the “Chespirito” Bioseries Ends; They Attempted to Destroy It

On Thursday, July 24, the bioseries “Chespirito: Sin Queriendo” concluded, and criticism of 76-year-old actress Florinda Meza, who inspired the character of Margarita Ruiz, was rekindled. Beyond the negative comments, residents of Juchipila, Zacatecas, expressed their anger toward the comedian and even attempted to destroy the statue that was erected in 2019 in her honor.

As planned, on the day of the finale of the bioseries available on HBO Max, a group of people gathered to remove the sculpture created by artist Víctor Hugo Yañez Piña. Although fewer people than expected attended, local police officers protected the piece of art to prevent it from being destroyed.

In mid-July, an event to remove the statue in Juchipila, Zacatecas, Florinda Meza’s hometown, was announced on Facebook, as we reported. A social media user identified as Diana launched the call, specifying that the event would be held on July 24th at 7 p.m. in the main plaza.

The initial goal of the event against the statue of Florinda Meza was to exert pressure for its removal; apparently, due to the authorities’ refusal, people decided to take action on their own, claiming the actress portrays Juchipila in a negative light. They also object to statements she has made, especially when she said that “Chespirito” had “seven defects” when referring to his children and wife.

The piece of art created by Víctor Hugo Yañez Piña is even being called a “sculpture of shame” because social media users are against the actress, who had a romantic relationship with “Chespirito” when he was married to his first wife, Graciela Fernández, the mother of his six children, which was openly exposed in the bioseries “Chespirito: sin querer queriendo.”
