Another foreigner! A new controversy involving a foreign tourist has ignited social media after a woman, presumably of American nationality, was caught behaving in an arrogant and mocking manner at an ice cream shop located in the Roma neighborhood of Mexico City.
Her attitude, which generated discomfort among employees and diners, did not go unnoticed, especially on social media, where internet users expressed their annoyance at this type of person amid a recent wave of events where foreigners behave in a racist and classist manner in Mexico.
The incident occurred at the Deliciosos Lácteos Artesanales establishment, when the woman began shouting, insulting, and using rude expressions in English, creating a tense atmosphere among those present. The situation escalated when one of the customers began recording her with his cell phone.
Upon noticing she was being filmed, the woman responded by making faces, sticking out her tongue, gesturing ironically, and even uttering derogatory phrases.
“Are you recording me?” she questioned.
“Yes, ma’am, so you can see how rude you are,” the man behind the camera replied.
Far from calming down, the woman addressed the customer again before leaving the place and, with obvious contempt, said:
“Since we were little, don’t worry,” a phrase that many interpreted as classist and condescending.
As expected, the video quickly went viral and gave rise to the nickname now widely circulating on social media: #LadyMuecas, in reference to the gestures with which she attempted to discredit those who confronted her. This episode is reminiscent of the recent #LadyRacista case, also involving a foreigner in the Mexican capital. This has rekindled the debate about discriminatory attitudes and racism on the part of foreigners in the country, which are becoming less accepted by Mexicans every day, who are demanding respect in different ways.
Social media users not only condemned the woman’s behavior but also took the opportunity to demand greater respect for workers and customers of local businesses, who frequently face this type of behavior.
