Alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) spied on agents of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in 2024, during the trial presided over by Judge Beryl Alaine Howell of the Federal District Court for the District of Columbia in Washington, D.C., against Rubén Oseguera González, “El Menchito,” son of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, “El Mencho,” leader of said Mexican transnational criminal group.
Matthew W. Allen, head of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Division in Los Angeles, California, revealed on June 24, 2025, during a hearing before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee that the CJNG not only spied on its agents, but also monitored informants who collaborated in the trial of “El Menchito” in the United States and took revenge in Mexico by murdering the wife and daughter of an informant, as well as a member of the Mexican Army.
“During the trial of ‘El Menchito,’ son of the top leader of the CJNG, cartel members were discovered monitoring DEA agents and informants, right here in Washington, D.C.,” Allen stated in his testimony before the House Judiciary Committee.
“As a direct result of the capture and prosecution of ‘El Menchito,’ the CJNG struck back in Mexico, shooting the wife and murdering the daughter of a cooperating informant, and killing a Mexican Army soldier,” explained the head of the DEA’s Los Angeles, California, Division.
