After being arrested in the state of Chiapas, minutes before midnight, Abraham Morales Trinidad, alias “Double Zero,” the alleged leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in southern Veracruz, was transferred to Coatzacoalcos. He was arrested for homicide.
Identified as a major source of violence in the state, “Double Zero” is considered the cartel’s second-in-command, under the orders of José Roberto Sánchez Cortes, who is still wanted by federal authorities.
After 11:00 p.m. on Monday, June 23, Abraham arrived at the Specialized Unit for Combating Kidnapping (UECS) in Coatzacoalcos, more than ten hours after being detained in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, for the crime of aggravated intentional homicide.
Hours earlier, in a statement, the Veracruz State Attorney General’s Office confirmed that the arrest was achieved in collaboration with the Chiapas Prosecutor’s Office and the National Anti-Kidnapping Coordination (CONASE).
In Veracruz, authorities confirmed that his initial hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, June 24, where the judge must confirm his detention and begin the criminal investigation process.
