If you’re still clinging to that iPhone 5 or Galaxy S4, it’s time to say goodbye to WhatsApp.

Meta has announced new updates for its messaging app WhatsApp, which will go into effect this April across various devices to improve the user experience. However, these updates will not be available for users with devices running Android versions earlier than 5.0 or Apple iOS versions earlier than 13.

In its latest update, WhatsApp will introduce features like event creation and enhanced call interfaces, making the app more complex and requiring more processing power and memory—rendering older devices obsolete.

The app will also add features such as viewing who’s online in group chats and improving video call quality using artificial intelligence—features that will not be supported on older phones.

These updates are intended to prioritize user security and enhance the overall app experience, which is why more sophisticated devices with better memory capabilities will be required.

Phones That Will No Longer Support WhatsApp as of April 2025:

WhatsApp will no longer be compatible with devices running Android 4.4 or earlier and iOS 12 or earlier, so users will need to upgrade to continue enjoying full access to the app’s features.

Some of these older devices may still allow the app to function, but users will not be able to benefit from the latest features and updates offered by the world’s most popular messaging platform.
