Rubén Oseguera González, known as El Menchito, will serve his life sentence at the maximum-security prison in Florence, Colorado.
It is one of the highest-security facilities in the United States, second only to the supermax unit, located in the same complex but in a different building, where Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán is being held.
El Menchito was found guilty on September 9, 2024, also a Friday, but Judge Beryl A. Howell has only just sentenced him.
This will not be his first time behind bars, as he has already served time in Mexico, in addition to serving more than four years in the United States after being extradited in 2020.
However, the criminal life of the creator of a self-proclaimed fentanyl “empire” has reached a point of no return.
After Friday’s green light, it’s still unclear where the narco prince’s final home will be. However, reports suggest he could remain in downtown Florence.
