For Terry Cortez, there is only one option to change things: political participation.

“There are a number of rumors that aren’t helping. Now they say the ‘Mother of all deportations’ is coming, which is causing fear in the community. I’ve preferred to read less of this kind of news and stay informed,” says the popular radio host of 97.9FM La Raza.

For Terry “El Terrible” Cortez, there is only one option: “Vote, vote, and vote, go to the offices of congressmembers and ask that they address the demands of the community.”

“We have that right, the fight now is in the legislatures, passing laws that protect and benefit our communities,” he says.

For “El Terrible,” the fight now is to focus on the midterm elections, where the Latino vote could make a difference.

“It’s a possibility that if we don’t take action, the vote could change the political landscape of California, but the answer isn’t in protests, it’s in political participation,” he says.

The Republican Party has been gaining important positions in California, a state that was once a stronghold for Democrats.

“People need to act, if someone in the family is eligible to vote, they should do it. We need to make ourselves heard at the polls,” he says.

A recent post announced a massive deportation in California this weekend. Several organizations have warned the community to take precautions, but information on social media has created a climate of fear, whether true or false.
