Born in Mexico, Mena came to the US to work in different newspapers in Texas and California. He is the founder of Hoy, the Spanish publication funded by Los Angeles Times. Prior to this experience, he led similar projects for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the San Jose Mercury News, and the Orange County Register. Also, he was the Editorial Director for La Opinion, the largest Latino publication in the country.
