Mexican federal authorities dismantle a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory in Durango, seizing 1,308 kilograms of methamphetamine and large quantities of chemicals and production equipment.
Mexican federal authorities reported dismantling a clandestine synthetic-drug laboratory in Carricitos, Durango, seizing 1,308 kilograms of methamphetamine, chemical precursors, solid chemical substances, and industrial equipment used in drug production.
The federal Security Cabinet said that, 750 kilograms of the seized methamphetamine consisted of finished product ready for distribution. Another 558 kilograms were still in the drying stage, one of the final steps before packaging. The distinction provides a more detailed picture of the material reportedly present at the facility than the overall seizure total alone.
Authorities also reported neutralizing 4,500 liters of chemical precursors used in methamphetamine synthesis and seizing another 2,902 kilograms of solid chemical substances.
The equipment reportedly found at the property included a reactor with a capacity of 600 liters, which served as a central component of the chemical synthesis process, and a centrifuge used to separate and purify substances during production. Navy personnel also located 28 burners used to heat materials at different stages of production and six vats, each with a capacity of 500 liters, for storing and mixing chemical components. Gas tanks, water pumps, and additional tools were also found.
According to the supplied report, authorities disabled the equipment and materials at the property to prevent the infrastructure from being reused to resume production at the same location.
The government estimated the financial impact of the operation on organized crime at 163.56 million pesos, a figure that combined the reported value of the methamphetamine, chemical precursors, and seized solid substances.
Taken together, the reported quantities, the presence of finished and partially processed methamphetamine, and the inventory of industrial equipment describe a facility equipped for multiple stages of production. Unconfirmed is who owned or operated the laboratory, which criminal organization controlled it, how long it had been active, or the facility’s actual production capacity.
