On Tuesday, October 13, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) secured a formal indictment against Iván “N”—alias “El Tanque”—who is identified as an operator for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the alleged leader of a fuel-theft network sanctioned by the United States.

A federal judge determined there was sufficient evidence to investigate his probable involvement in four crimes, including organized crime and kidnapping. The judge also upheld the preventive detention order currently being served at Federal Social Readaptation Center (Cefereso) No. 1—known as “Altiplano”—in the State of Mexico.

This ruling marks another judicial step forward against an alleged member of the inner circle of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho,” whom U.S. authorities have long identified as a key figure in the CJNG’s financial operations.

In statement 707/26, the FGR announced that a control judge had formally indicted Iván “N” for his alleged responsibility in the crimes of organized crime, kidnapping, possession of firearms reserved for exclusive use by the Armed Forces, and drug-related offenses.

During the continuation of the initial hearing, federal prosecutors attached to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO) presented the evidence that supported the ruling.
