A woman’s complaint regarding a cosmetic procedure performed in northern Bogotá led—according to her account—to an operation by the Military Anti-Kidnapping and Extortion Group (Gaula) and the arrest of those involved.
The victim told CityTV (part of the *El Tiempo* media group) that the individuals responsible were not real doctors.
Alejandra—as the woman who traveled from Ubaté, Cundinamarca, to Usaquén in January 2025 to undergo a “Gold Lipolysis” with gluteal fat transfer was identified—suffered a multi-drug-resistant bacterial infection for ten months following the procedure. She was treated with three different fourth-generation antibiotics because the microorganism did not respond to standard treatments. She stated that the medications caused her hair to fall out and led to tooth loss.
“That defined my experience of motherhood; it marked my life forever,” Alejandra told the media outlet. Fearing she might infect her baby, she stayed away from her child for part of that ordeal.
The woman recounted losing consciousness three times during post-operative check-ups. She also reported experiencing heavy bleeding.
“I fainted three times during the post-operative period; I was bleeding profusely.” On the fourth day, she developed black diarrhea, which she attributed to the combination of the surgery, anesthesia, and antibiotics.
Her physical condition prevented her from maintaining a normal hygiene routine. “I couldn’t even take a full shower; I could only wash my intimate areas and my legs,” she explained.
Alejandra had discovered the facility through a social media advertisement. The photos displayed results from procedures performed on other women who were also mothers.
