Children and adolescents in Colombia continue to suffer the scourge of war. The latest victim was Mónica Lizeth Beltrán, a 13-year-old student who had been forcibly recruited by FARC dissidents in Tibú, Norte de Santander.
The tragic news was confirmed by her father, Ramón Darío Beltrán, who recounted receiving two anonymous calls on the night of Sunday, September 20, 2026. During the first call, at 5:10 p.m., he was informed of his daughter’s death; in the second, at 6:40 p.m., her captors confirmed the information and expressed their condolences.
As he told *Noticias RCN*, the girl died while attempting to escape alongside three other minors. The others managed to flee, but Mónica was left behind and shot by the insurgents.
Mónica Beltrán’s father also told the aforementioned news outlet that he received a video reporting the crime, and her body was subsequently delivered in a vehicle.
The girl was a seventh-grade student and the fifth of seven siblings; according to those close to her, she had received no threats prior to her disappearance. Her schoolmates remember her as a quiet young girl who enjoyed digital platforms.
