Building on investigations stemming from the arrest in Morelia of Manuel Alejandro Rendón Aguilar—identified as “El Señor de la T” and the regional coordinator for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in the Michoacán Bajío region—authorities from all three levels of government carried out a massive operational deployment in the municipalities of Angamacutiro and Puruándiro.
Rendón Aguilar’s arrest in the state capital, conducted by members of the Federal Security Cabinet, yielded strategic information regarding the operational structure of the criminal group, which is active in the municipalities of Angamacutiro, Penjamillo, Panindícuaro, José Sixto Verduzco, and Puruándiro.
This cell is linked to activities such as extortion, kidnapping, homicide, disappearances committed by private individuals, and retail-level drug trafficking in the region.
As part of the National Strategy Against Extortion, personnel from the Michoacán State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), the Undersecretariat for Specialized Investigation (SIE) of the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), the National Guard, and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) simultaneously raided 28 properties.
These operations resulted in the capture of 18 CJNG members, including four municipal police officers—among them José Armando, the director of the Angamacutiro police force. During the searches, a previously issued arrest warrant was also executed.
The 18 detainees, along with the seized weaponry, drugs, and assets, were placed at the disposal of the appropriate Public Prosecutor’s Office for the compilation of investigation files, the determination of their legal status, and the clarification of operational and institutional responsibilities within the state.
