An intense operation by land and air, led by the Mexican Army and federal security institutions in the mountain area of the municipality of Los Reyes, Michoacán, generated various unofficial versions of severe impacts on the command structure of the Los Reyes Cartel.
Preliminarily and without official confirmation, the death of at least five Sicarios is reported during the confrontation, as well as the seizure of high-powered weapons, vehicles and tactical supplies.
The security corporations did not register casualties or injured elements in their ranks, nor were they notified of any detainees.
Among the versions circulating in the region after the military deployment, the alleged fall of Luis Enrique Barragán Chávez “El Wicho” or “El R5” stands out, a priority target for whom the United States Government offers a reward of three million dollars.
Likewise, local reports indicate that among the deceased could be a close collaborator identified as Jesús Sandoval and nicknamed “Chuchito Nini”, leader of the capo’s bodyguard group, and William Álvarez, alias “El Maníaco”, identified as commander of the criminal group’s shock cell.
Despite the magnitude of the confrontation, there were no blockades or violent reactions at the entrances to the municipality.
However, state and federal forces maintain strategic patrols to prevent possible disturbances to public order. It is expected that in the next few hours the State Attorney General’s Office or the Federal Security Cabinet will issue an official report to ratify the results of the intervention and the identity of the deceased.
