During the commemoration of the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, the Salamanca municipal DIF (Family Development Agency) presented a culinary display featuring cakes decorated with photographs of men and women currently being sought by their loved ones.
The activities were led by the municipal DIF president, Eugenia Martínez Carrillo, and Mayor César Prieto.
The cakes, bearing the faces of the missing persons, were displayed on a stand and subsequently given to the attendees.
Additionally, in the presence of the missing persons’ relatives, the “Tree of Memory” was inaugurated in Xidoo Park.
Knitted items were placed on the tree, some representing the tools used by searchers in the field, such as shovels.
The display of these images on food items sparked criticism after photos were posted on social media.
A buffet service was provided at the event.
The Salamanca municipal DIF provides financial or psychological support to 430 families searching for their loved ones.
This Sunday, collectives of “searching mothers” will march in various municipalities across the state to press the government for an effective search for their missing sons, daughters, siblings, and spouses. In Celaya, the march will conclude outside the State Attorney General’s Office.
