President Claudia Sheinbaum asserted that Mexico maintains the best possible agreement with the United States, following her call with her US counterpart, Donald Trump, and the 90-day tariff pause.
After speaking by phone for nearly 40 minutes with the Republican, the president emphasized that Mexico is in a very good position in this new international order—modified by the US tariff policy—after reaching the agreement.
“Mexico remains today within this new world order, because it is a new world trade order. We have the best possible agreement, even compared to other nations. Yes, investing in Mexico remains the best option. So, we have a very good situation.”
In the People’s Morning Press Conference from the National Palace, the president said both nations will continue to maintain dialogue for approximately three months. “If you look at the agreements with other countries, the USMCA is actually safeguarded, and that’s very important.”
“Remember that the 25 percent tariffs or duties on everything that isn’t covered by the USMCA are applied to anything outside the scope of the agreement, which is 25 percent. The tariffs on automotive products remain in place, although, as you know, there’s a discount for parts manufactured in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.”
