Pause in Raids on Farm and Service Workers. What happened, Mr. President? You said Americans would line up for those jobs.

Yes. President Donald Trump announced a pause in raids on immigrants working in the agricultural and service fields. Let’s be clear, he’s not making a concession to immigrants, much less recognizing their value to the country’s economy.

What’s happening is that Trump caved in to pressure from those sectors and acknowledged that Americans have no intention of working picking, washing dishes, cooking, waiting tables, cleaning hotels, or making beds.

Trump’s illusions and rhetoric are once again confronting reality. No American will do those jobs. And now, Trump is facing other problems. What will you do with the deficits in the construction sector? What will you do with the mansions that need bricklayers? What will you do with the nannies who care for the children of business owners and clean the houses?

For the Trump Administration, migration is a segmented phenomenon. Well, Mr. Trump. We have news for you. Immigration is a phenomenon absolutely embedded in the country’s economy.

The phrase “If they come for one, they come for the other” is not fiction but reality. While the pause temporarily puts workers in the agricultural and service sectors “safe,” it’s time to ask a question: What about the wives and children of those workers? Are you going to continue persecuting them?

The reality is this. Trump and his officials are digging themselves into a black hole, from which they won’t be able to escape if they wait any longer to stop this offensive against the working class.
