Samuel Ruiz Macías, a Hispanic student at Central East High School in Fresno, became one of the luckiest students in the country by being accepted to 15 universities.
Among the universities he received acceptances to were Stanford, Yale, and Columbia.
Samuel’s excitement at being accepted to each of the universities he applied to was captured on video and shared on his TikTok account.
“It’s incredible, it’s crazy, honestly. I didn’t think this was going to happen. This was like a fantasy that would never come true. I’m very excited because I was accepted not only to 15 schools, but to 15 good schools,” Ruiz said in an interview.
The young man said that from a young age his parents taught him to fight for his dreams.
Now, his plan is to become a lawyer because he is passionate about helping the immigrant community. Ruiz wants anyone like him who wants to improve themselves to have the same opportunities.
Samuel’s father said in an interview that the only thing they’ve ever done is talk to him about the importance of studying to open doors for the future.
“Do you want a good job? Studying is the main way to go. And he did take it into account because at some point we had to work in the fields,” said the young man’s father.
In making his decision, Samuel said that financial considerations will be a factor.
