Problems continue to mount for LAUSD and Superintendent Alberto Carvalho. Schools Beyond Screens, a group of teachers and parents within the district, has launched a petition calling for an audit of all contracts signed during his tenure. The request comes amid possible corruption surrounding the Ed chatbot scandal.
Schools Beyond Screens is a parent and educator coalition in the Los Angeles area focused on reducing excessive use of technology (screens and devices) in classrooms within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). They argue that current digital practices can harm learning, privacy, and student well-being.
The petition states:
Dear LAUSD Board of Education,
In the wake of the FBI investigation into Superintendent Carvalho’s role in the failed Ed chatbot scandal, we demand an emergency audit of all tech contracts procured during his term to determine whether they are safe, legal, and effective.
Signed,
Schools Beyond Screens and supporters
Federal authorities recently served search warrants at LAUSD headquarters and at Superintendent Carvalho’s residence as part of a criminal investigation by the FBI. The agency executed those warrants on February 25, 2026, but has not disclosed details because the supporting affidavits are under seal. Federal officials have stated that the district is cooperating, and a third property near Miami linked to Carvalho’s previous work was also searched.
