Just one in four Americans supports US strikes on Iran, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll, revealing that only 27% of respondents approved of the U.S. strikes that killed Iran’s leader, while 43% disapproved and 29% were unsure about the military action. About nine in ten Americans said they had heard at least a little about the strikes, which began early on Saturday, highlighting widespread public awareness and strong reactions across the country.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 56% of Americans believe President Donald Trump is too willing to use military force to advance U.S. interests. This view was shared by 87% of Democrats, 23% of Republicans, and 60% of independents, underscoring deep political divisions over U.S. foreign policy and military intervention in the Middle East.

Among Republicans, 55% said they approved of the strikes on Iran and 13% disapproved. However, 42% of Republicans said they would be less likely to support the Iran campaign if it results in the U.S. troops in the Middle East being killed or injured, signaling concerns about escalating conflict and potential American casualties.

The poll closed before the U.S. military announced the first American casualties in the operation. Since the strikes, three U.S. service members have been killed and five more seriously wounded, developments that have intensified debate over the risks of expanding military involvement in the region.

As the United States approaches midterm elections, voters continue to rank the economy as their top concern, far above foreign affairs. President Trump’s approval rating dipped slightly to 39%, one percentage point lower than a previous Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted February 18–23, reflecting ongoing scrutiny of his leadership and foreign policy decisions.
