Three months after the murder of Ximena Guzmán and José Muñoz, collaborators of Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada, authorities arrested 13 suspects, although the masterminds and the shooter remain at large.
“During the early hours of today (Wednesday), in coordination with the federal government, a major operation was carried out related to the murders of our colleagues Ximena Guzmán and José Muñoz, in which 13 people were arrested, including three who directly participated in the murders and others related to the logistical preparation of the attack,” Brugada announced this morning.
Hours later, the federal security secretaries, Omar García Harfuch, and the Mexico City security secretaries, Pablo Vázquez, as well as the capital’s prosecutor, Bertha Alcalde, provided details of the arrests. García Harfuch reported that after the murder of the two officials on May 20, those responsible gathered in the Barrio La Asunción neighborhood in Iztacalco, from where they fled towards Ecatepec, Edomex.
