A woman hospitalized at Tijuana General Hospital in Baja California was shot and killed by a man disguised as a nurse, just one day after surviving an armed attack.

The victim was identified as 39-year-old Wendy Lizeth Martínez Quijada.

The incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. on Thursday. Hospital video surveillance cameras captured the attacker leaning against a wall in the emergency room hallway while pretending to talk on the phone. Seconds later, as another man left the room across the hall, the man entered, fired his weapon, and then fled.

According to local media, the same man had tried to enter the hospital hours earlier, but dropped his firearm in the booth. After picking it up, he fled the scene and returned again, this time disguised as a nurse.

According to information obtained by Semanario Zeta, the woman was hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after being the victim of an armed assault in the Ignacio Ramírez neighborhood and was in the custody of National Guard and Baja California State Police officers.

Witnesses also report that the man captured on camera did not act alone, but that another person was involved in the incident. Both allegedly entered the area disguised in surgical gowns, evading the security forces’ surveillance.

Following these events, state and federal authorities deployed an operation in the area, during which several shell casings were found at the hospital entrance.

The Baja California Prosecutor’s Office has already initiated the corresponding investigation. No arrests have been reported so far.
