Zacatecas police chiefs arrested

Two municipal police chiefs in Zacatecas, Mexico, were arrested in an investigation involving aggravated kidnapping, extortion of livestock producers and alleged cooperation with criminal organizations.

Authorities arrested the public security directors of Río Grande and Momax, Zacatecas, as part of an investigation into kidnapping, extortion and alleged cooperation with criminal organizations.

The officers were identified as José Alonso Fernández Martínez, director in Río Grande, and José Miguel García, director in Momax. Two civilians, Cecilia “N” and Raúl “N,” were also arrested during related operations.

Investigators searched a property in Tlaltenango de Sánchez Román, where they detained the Momax director and Cecilia. Officers reportedly seized a fragmentation grenade, magazines, ammunition and suspected narcotics.

In Río Grande, authorities detained José Alonso and subsequently arrested Raúl during another search. The investigation includes alleged aggravated kidnapping and extortion targeting livestock producers.

The operation involved federal and state security agencies, including the Defense Secretariat, National Guard, federal prosecutors and the National Intelligence Center.

The arrests occurred amid several recent killings in the region. It indicates that a broader operation known as Enjambre would continue and that additional suspects may have been detained. Those additional arrests and any reported rescues require separate official confirmation.
