Gerardo Ortiz, one of the most recognized names in regional Mexican music, faces the most delicate moment of his career. On November 19, the singer will appear before a Federal Court in Los Angeles to hear his sentence stemming from his involvement in financial transactions with a company allegedly linked to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
Ortiz, known for his controversial war corridos, has cooperated with the FBI in recent months in an attempt to reduce his sentence.
The case against Ortiz centers on his financial ties to the promoter Gallística Diamante, a company run by Jesús “Chucho” Pérez Alvear, identified by US authorities as an alleged money launderer for the CJNG. The file reveals that the relationship was established as a result of several concerts organized in 2018 by Del Records and Gallística Diamante, which would have generated close to $1.5 million.
