Until recently, Mazatlán was considered a safe area, far from the violence experienced in other municipalities in the state such as Culiacán or Navolato. However, the clashes and murders generated by the war between “Los Chapitos” and “Los Mayos” led to an increase in high-impact crime rates in the port.
According to data from the Sinaloa State Attorney General’s Office, updated on the first day of this month, high-impact crimes in 2025 already exceeded those recorded the previous year.
In the twelve months of 2024, the State Attorney General’s Office recorded 236 high-impact crimes in the municipality, while as of October 1, 2025, those numbers had already been surpassed by 245 cases.
This means that in the nine months from January to September 2025, high-impact crimes at the port have increased by 3.8 percent compared to the total for the previous year.
