The discovery of the lifeless body of Sergio Rodolfo Cázares Zambada, nephew of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, in an abandoned truck south of Culiacán, Sinaloa, adds another episode of violence to the ongoing internal war between Los Chapitos and La Mayiza.

According to local media reports, the murder of the relative of the Sinaloa Cartel co-founder occurred on the night of Sunday, February 8, 2026, when security forces located the vehicle in front of the School of Agronomy at the Autonomous University of Sinaloa (UAS), in the Costa Rica district.

However, the victim’s identity was not released until the night of Monday, February 9. According to reports, the body showed signs of violence and, after initial investigations, was transferred to the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO), while the pickup truck was impounded by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Sergio Rodolfo Cázares Zambada was around 40 years old and lived in the Las Quintas neighborhood of Culiacán. He was the son of Sergio Cázares and Águeda Zambada García, the older sister of “El Mayo” Zambada, who is currently imprisoned in the United States.

The man was involved in the family’s criminal enterprise. In April 2012, members of the Mexican Army and the Tijuana Municipal Police arrested Sergio Rodolfo along with his cousin Omar Ismael Zambada, son of Jesús Reynaldo “El Rey” Zambada, while they were driving in the border city.
