James Sabatino, a Sicilian mafia boss incarcerated at the ADX Florence supermax prison, has requested a federal judge’s support to have contact with former Sinaloa Cartel leader Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, who is serving his sentence under similar conditions of isolation.
Sabatino, linked to the Cosa Nostra and known for his fraud and ties to organized crime, recently sent a letter to Federal Judge Joan Leonard requesting permission to visit the Mexican drug lord during his recreation time in their respective cells, even if communication is limited. Allegedly due to the location of their cells, they share the same wall, as the Italian is housed in an area known as “The Suites,” where he revealed that for years he has communicated through banging and shouting due to the partition. He is only allowed to see his lawyer and stepmother, while “El Chapo” Guzmán has not seen his legal team in recent months.
In the letter addressed to the judge, he confesses that it is for “mental health” reasons, explaining that they are the only ones in strict isolation without contact with other prisoners due to this prolonged confinement.
“It is an act of humanity,” the Sicilian mafia boss pleads, describing the conditions and asking for his humanity to be preserved.
