Mexican justice denied the request for early release of Edgar Coronel Aispuro, brother-in-law of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán and brother of Emma Coronel.

This decision, announced in recent hours by the First District Court for the Execution of Sentences, keeps the defendant at the Federal Social Rehabilitation Center No. 15 “CPS Chiapas,” where he remains under investigation for federal crimes.

According to reports, Edgar Coronel’s defense appealed the denial, and a panel of judges will decide in the coming months whether or not early release is warranted. The judicial decision is based on a review of his criminal record and an evaluation of the open cases against him.
Edgar Coronel Aispuro was arrested in October 2015 in Sinaloa. Federal authorities from the then Attorney General’s Office (PGR) linked him at that time to organized crime activities, as well as to the spectacular escape of Joaquín Guzmán Loera from the maximum security prison of El Altiplano.
