The arrest of 38 people in the municipality of Vista Hermosa, Michoacán, revealed the existence of Los Jahzer, a secret armed group linked to the La Luz del Mundo church.
According to state and federal authorities, this group conducted military-style training on a property located in an area under the influence of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
The detainees, who claimed to belong to the congregation founded by the Joaquín family, were taken to the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) headquarters amid a heavy security operation.
Among them are two individuals with prior training in security institutions, said Michoacán’s Secretary of Public Security (SSP), Juan Carlos Oseguera Cortés.
Initially known as Grupo Jericó and later renamed Los Jahzer, the collective was created as a personal guard for the leaders of La Luz del Mundo.
Its main function was to protect the church’s leaders, their families, properties, and large-scale events such as the Holy Supper, one of the religious organization’s most important ceremonies.
Testimonies indicate that this group acts under the direct orders of the “Apostle of Jesus Christ,” either Samuel Joaquín Flores in the past or his son, Naasón Joaquín García, currently imprisoned in the United States for sexual crimes.
