Veracruz Governor Rocío Nahle responded to criticism from various figures after declaring that teacher Irma Hernández’s cause of death was a heart attack, following her kidnapping and rape by an organized crime group. After her remarks, she announced the results of the autopsy.
During her weekly press conference, Nahle revealed details about the kidnapping of teacher Irma Hernández in Álamo de Temapache, a town located in the north of the state. During the appearance, she confirmed that the cause of death was a heart attack and lamented the accusations and criticism against her.
“It’s miserable, for a grieving family, to take it to such a scandalous level. Here’s the doctor who performed the autopsy. The teacher was raped, I said that. After being raped, unfortunately, she suffered a heart attack. That was the reality. Whether you like it or not (…) The teacher has already been buried, it’s regrettable. I saw national hatemongers on social media, with direct insults toward me, with insults of a level I can’t describe. Hatemongers because an autopsy report was issued,” she explained.
The doctor in charge of performing the autopsy was also present at the press conference and provided details of the procedure. In his statement, José Eduardo Márquez, a medical examiner from the Tuxpan area, explained:
“With the data we obtained from the external analysis, we were able to see multiple injuries in different parts of the body. In the internal analysis, we observed, upon opening the cavities, that the injuries were centered on the heart. They were not located on the skull, thorax, or abdomen, but they were external. The person was violated. It’s a fact beyond words.”
