This Friday, July 11, Ovidio Guzmán López, alias “El Ratón,” pleaded guilty to four charges before the Chicago, Illinois, United States court, thereby sealing his collaboration agreement with authorities in that country.
In an interview with Infobae Mexico, Mike Vigil, a former Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent, reported that the first step Ovidio Guzmán López will face is to make a written statement, which could open several lines of investigation into drug trafficking operations in Mexico.
Due to the importance of the Sinaloa Cartel, which was considered one of the most powerful in Mexico, “El Ratón” could provide information related to public officials allegedly involved in providing protection to the criminal organization to carry out its criminal activities.
“In this statement, Ovidio will be naming politicians who protect the Sinaloa Cartel, businessmen who launder money for the criminal organization, and companies in China that sell them chemical precursors to make fentanyl and methamphetamine,” the former DEA agent commented.
Before his final sentence is handed down, which is scheduled for six months from now, “El Chapo’s” son will be required to provide information and testimony to the United States.
In this context, the former agent anticipates that Ovidio Guzmán will also be testifying against Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel arrested in the US along with Joaquín Guzmán López in July 2024.
