Israel Vallarta Cisneros was imprisoned in 2005 after being accused of leading a gang of kidnappers known as “Los Zodiaco,” in addition to crimes such as kidnapping, organized crime, and possession of weapons exclusively for the Army, among other things. However, after being released today, he sent a message to journalist Carlos Loret de Mola. The journalist played a key role in Vallarta’s social prosecution.
Israel Vallarta’s public invitation to Carlos Loret de Mola for a direct dialogue resonated on social media after the former inmate expressed his desire to clarify pending issues since the filming of his arrest. “Yes, Carlos Loret de Mola, I would like you to listen to this. I hope you’d like to invite me to your show, because I would be happy to accept the invitation right now if you want to,” Vallarta said, emphasizing that he holds no grudges: “I don’t hate you, because I insist, everything falls into place. You know very well why you left Televisa, and you and I know it, but I’d like to have that conversation upfront.”
During a court hearing on October 27, 2020, Loret de Mola admitted to a journalistic error in failing to detect that the broadcast he participated in was part of a setup. However, he categorically denied having organized, collaborated, or been complicit in the same operation. The journalist also stated during that statement: “I have apologized for fifteen years,” and described as “unfair the systematic attacks by President López Obrador and his associates using this event to discredit him.”
In a subsequent court appearance on July 12, 2021, Loret emphasized that the then-members of his news program who had identified him as responsible, Laura Barranco and Juan Manuel Magaña, testified that they, too, did not detect the setup at the time.
