The US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) launched a campaign called Fentanyl Free America that aims to end the use of synthetic drugs in the United States, especially fentanyl.
This comes after more than 50,000 people died in the United States in 2024 due to the adverse effects of fentanyl, despite a reduction in consumption in recent years thanks to security campaigns and operations deployed across the country. Here’s what Fentanyl Free America is all about.
In a press release published by the DEA, they explain that Fentanyl Free America is a comprehensive control initiative and public awareness campaign designed to reduce both the supply and demand for fentanyl in the United States.
With the goal of protecting American lives, the campaign seeks to raise awareness about the dangers of synthetic opioids.
“Fentanyl Free America represents the DEA’s unwavering commitment to saving American lives and ending the fentanyl crisis. We are making significant progress in this fight and must continue to intensify efforts to disrupt the fentanyl supply and reduce demand,” said DEA Administrator Terrance Cole.
As part of the campaign, security efforts have been stepped up to dismantle foreign drug cartels, designated as terrorist groups.
The DEA report includes an open invitation to join the fight to curb fentanyl use:
“The Fentanyl Free America campaign also emphasizes the importance of citizen participation. The DEA encourages everyone—from community leaders, clergy, educators, parents, doctors, pharmacists, and law enforcement—to actively participate in raising awareness, protecting others through education, preventing fentanyl poisonings by understanding the dangers, and supporting those affected.”
