At the private Recinto de la Paz cemetery in Zapopan, Jalisco, the tomb of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes—better known as “El Mencho”—has not only become a point of interest for the curious but has also sparked controversy after images of the drug lord’s alleged epitaph began circulating on social media.

The inscription exalts the figure of the former leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), describing him as a “great man” and even including a phrase attributed to the revolutionary hero Emiliano Zapata.

According to images circulating on Reddit forums and social media, the black marble headstone—situated beneath a white canopy and surrounded by lavish floral arrangements—bears an engraved portrait of “El Mencho” embracing a rooster. This personal symbol accompanied him throughout his criminal life and also gave rise to his second nickname: “The Lord of the Roosters.”
