A video has surfaced on social media, recorded by one of the security personnel who entered the “El Castillo” Penitentiary Center in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, during an operation to contain a violent clash.
The footage shows prison corridors crowded with wounded individuals and multiple lifeless bodies bearing gunshot wounds. Trails of blood and spent shell casings are visible on the floor as security forces move through the facility.
The release of this footage highlights the severity of the confrontation that took place on October 8, 2026, inside the prison, where members of the “La Chapiza” faction engaged in a shootout to seize control of the facility.
The incident occurred during scheduled family visitation hours, leaving civilians trapped in the crossfire.
The clash resulted in 12 deaths and at least 16 injuries. Among those killed was a two-year-old child named Rafael, who was at the prison visiting his incarcerated father when he was struck by gunfire.
Another individual killed was Eduardo Jonathan Martínez Larios—known as “El Owen,” an operative for “La Chapiza.” Images of his body are circulating on social media. Unofficial reports suggest the conflict may have occurred between inmates belonging to the same faction, though this has not been confirmed.
Following a deployment by the State Secretariat of Public Security (SSPE), the National Guard, and agents from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), security forces regained control of the facility. They seized various firearms, live ammunition, and sharp, bladed objects. The FGE has launched an investigation to determine criminal responsibility.
