The murder of Valeria Márquez, a 23-year-old influencer, has caused a stir in Zapopan, Jalisco, and on social media, where excerpts of the live stream she was broadcasting at the time of the attack have spread.
The crime occurred on May 13 at the “Blossom The Beauty Lounge” beauty salon, located in the Real del Carmen neighborhood, when a gunman entered the establishment, confirmed the victim’s identity, and shot her. The case is being investigated under the femicide protocol.
The attack took place while Valeria was interacting with her audience during a live stream from her beauty salon. Minutes before the attack, the young woman had shown her followers a stuffed pig, one of the gifts her friend Vivian de la Torre had sent her, who asked her to stay on the premises to receive the gifts.
During the broadcast, Valeria expressed discomfort and mentioned that she intended to leave, but decided to stay after reading a message from Vivian insisting that she wait. “Let her wait for me, Vivian says, because she wants to see my face. Hurry, man… because I have to go,” she commented hurriedly.
The last object Valeria showed on camera was the stuffed animal, before a gunman burst in and shot her.
After the attack, a beauty salon worker, identified as Érika, closed the live broadcast.
After the attack went viral, a comment Vivian de la Torre reportedly posted on TikTok explains why the employee made this decision to avoid showing the crime scene and out of respect for the victim:
“The worker ended the live so as not to show her in such a harsh moment like today. You have to have a little more empathy, which is already difficult enough to deal with.”
