The US Embassy in Mexico City warned US citizens about the anti-gentrification demonstration in the capital.
It also asked US citizens to avoid participating in the social movement.
“US citizens should avoid participating in demonstrations that authorities may consider political, as Mexican law prohibits political participation by foreign citizens, and their participation may result in detention or deportation.”
It also recalled the first anti-gentrification march in Mexico City, arguing that there were disruptions at that event.
“On July 4, a demonstration was held in the Roma and Condesa neighborhoods, where some of its members vandalized property and threw rocks at people perceived as foreigners.”
When will the second anti-gentrification march take place?
The second march against gentrification will take place in the southern part of Mexico City and will aim to protest against areas highly affected by global tourism.
The social mobilization will take place on July 20th at 3:00 PM.
Citizens of areas affected by gentrification report that the social phenomenon has led to a significant increase in rents and the displacement of residents.
