By publishing a note about the anti-gentrification protest held Friday in Mexico City, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) took the opportunity to promote self-deportation of undocumented immigrants by recommending:
“If you are in the United States illegally and want to join the upcoming protest in Mexico City, please use the CBP Home app to facilitate your departure,” posted DHS on X.
The post was accompanied by a note about the protest, which ended in violence and vandalism, with buildings, restaurants, and businesses damaged.
In another post, DHS used photos of the protests featuring messages such as “pay taxes, learn Spanish, respect my culture,” and “it’s not your home” to highlight its campaign against undocumented immigrants.
