Following the controversy surrounding the alleged detention of Representative Mario López, known as “La Borrega,” by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents at the Old International Bridge in Brownsville, Texas, the Tamaulipas native responded to the accusations.
The first response came from the legislator’s office, which issued a statement “categorically” denying the allegations of his alleged detention by US authorities.
Following rumors that the representative known as “La Borrega” was detained around 8:00 p.m. on the night of September 26, 2025, while attempting to enter the United States, the office commented:
“The story linking him to an alleged detention in the United States at the New International Bridge connecting Matamoros with Brownsville, Texas, by CBP officers is absolutely false.”
According to various media outlets, the PVEM legislator stated that the news is supposedly “fake news” intended to “damage the public image of a public official who has worked transparently and in strict adherence to the law.”
Following the visa revocation, El Norte reported that the former mayor of Matamoros was indeed detained at the Brownsville-Matamoros International Bridge and had his U.S. document revoked. However, the newspaper clarified that this situation was not due to issues related to organized crime, as reported in some media outlets and on social media.
