The US Armed Forces killed six men on Sunday, March 8, in another attack on a speedboat in the Pacific Ocean allegedly linked to drug trafficking, the Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) announced. This brings the total number of vessels attacked since these operations began in September 2025 to at least 45.

The attack occurred as part of Operation Southern Spear, in which the United States has killed more than 150 people on these boats in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans to combat drug trafficking in Central America, South America, and the Caribbean, as well as to increase pressure on Venezuela.

This latest attack follows a previous operation on February 23 in the Caribbean that left three dead, also for suspected drug trafficking.

The action also comes after the launch of the Shield of the Americas initiative by US President Donald Trump, who on Saturday brought together more than a dozen right-wing Latin American leaders in Miami to create a new military coalition against “narco-terrorists”.
