US authorities issued a “global security alert” warning citizens abroad to exercise extreme caution against possible “demonstrations” against them, following the attacks carried out early Sunday morning against nuclear facilities in Iran.

“The conflict between Israel and Iran has resulted in travel disruptions and periodic airspace closures throughout the Middle East. Demonstrations against US citizens and interests abroad are possible,” the State Department explained in a statement, before urging “US citizens worldwide to exercise extreme caution.”
The alert issued by the US diplomatic ministry comes after the Department of Homeland Security warned the same day of “a heightened threat environment in the United States due to its direct involvement in the conflict between Israel and Iran.”

“It is our duty to keep the nation safe and informed, especially in times of conflict. The ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran raises the possibility of an increased threat to the homeland in the form of potential cyberattacks, acts of violence, and anti-Semitic hate crimes,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said in a brief statement, adding, however, that “there are currently no specific credible threats against the country.”
