The Trump administration yesterday deported eight men to South Sudan on a flight from Texas. They were in prison after being convicted of various violent crimes, including Jesús Muñoz Gutiérrez, a Mexican citizen. However, US authorities warned that this will not necessarily be the destination country for these individuals and that they remain in their custody.

Who is Jesús Muñoz Gutiérrez and what is he accused of?

Among those sent to South Sudan is Jesús Muñoz Gutiérrez, a Mexican citizen who was arrested by immigration authorities on May 12, 2025, and currently facing a life sentence for second-degree murder.

U.S. authorities have not yet specified whether Muñoz Gutiérrez was found guilty in the United States or another country, when the proceedings against him took place, and how he was arrested on U.S. soil; however, it is known that he was in that country without legal residence documents.
