The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) detained 72 migrants at a bar in South Carolina, which authorities say is linked to the “Los Zetas” cartel.
The operation took place with the collaboration of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and placed six minors in the custody of US social services.
However, despite stating that the migrants had committed “serious crimes,” authorities have so far only confirmed that one of them, identified as Sergio Joel Galo-Baca, had a criminal record.
Reports indicate that the bar was frequented by a member of Los Zetas, who are formally recognized as the Northeast Cartel (CDN) and were designated a terrorist organization by the Trump Administration in February 2025.
The Department of Homeland Security stated on X, formerly Twitter, that it deported 142 irregular migrants and “criminals” to Mexico in the last two weeks. They entered the United States a total of 480 times and were convicted of 473 criminal offenses.
