The United States carried out three attacks against three vessels allegedly operated by drug traffickers in the Eastern Pacific, near Colombia, as part of Operation Southern Spear.
During the attacks, eight crew members were killed, according to a post by Southern Command on its X account, which included a video of the operation ordered by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
What is Southern Spear?: US Names Its Operation in the Caribbean
The United States has now given a name to its operations in the Caribbean, which, under the unproven pretext of combating drug trafficking, have resulted in the bombing of boats, in which most of their occupants have died, and in increased pressure against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Pete Hegseth posted a message about it on the social network X, although he didn’t provide concrete details about the operation beyond explaining that it will be led by a specific joint task force and the Southern Command, which encompasses U.S. military operations in South America, Central America, and the Caribbean.
