Julio César Chávez Jr., son of Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez, was arrested in the United States for not having a valid visa and for his “affiliation” with the Sinaloa cartel. The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) confirmed that he has had an arrest warrant issued for him in Mexico for organized crime and arms trafficking since 2023.
The federal prosecutor’s office announced that the arrest was reported by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
“Julio ‘C’, who has had an arrest warrant issued for him in Mexico since March 2023 for organized crime and arms trafficking, was arrested by U.S. authorities in Los Angeles, California.
“These authorities have informed the Attorney General’s Office of the above, stating that they have initiated the procedure for his extradition to Mexico,” the Attorney General’s Office stated in X.
Although the date of his repatriation is not specified, the DHS detailed that he will be returned to Mexico through an “expedited removal” procedure, as he is considered a serious threat to public safety in the United States due to the allegations made here.
This comes after authorities in that country identified the boxer as a member of the Sinaloa cartel.
“He is also believed to be an affiliate of the Sinaloa cartel, a foreign terrorist organization,” states a U.S. government file.
Chávez was arrested last Tuesday in Los Angeles. Angeles, California, by U.S. Marshals Service agents and has since remained in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
