On November 22, 2025, the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) testified in court that Víctor Manuel “N”, a 17-year-old recruited as a hitman, was killed by Demetrio “N”, then the municipal police chief, at the end of the attack against Carlos Alberto Manzo Rodríguez, the mayor of Uruapan. Experts indicated that Víctor Manuel “N” first attacked Félix, a civilian who was with Manzo Rodríguez, and then fired six shots at the mayor. After the shooting, the hitman dropped his weapon and was subdued.
According to the forensic reconstruction and videos reviewed in court, Demetrio “N” picked up the gun from the ground and fired directly at Víctor Manuel “N”, who had already been subdued and disarmed, posing no threat. Ballistic studies refuted the director’s statement, who claimed the shot was fired from a distance of one and a half meters.
At the same hearing, a paramedic testified that Manzo Rodríguez’s bodyguards prevented him from attending to the minor, only allowing intervention after the arrival of National Guard members, by which time Víctor Manuel “N” had already died. Videos circulating on social media showed how, while paramedics were resuscitating Manzo Rodríguez, the perpetrator lay on the ground, surrounded by onlookers who were hurling insults at him.
Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, governor of Michoacán, stated at a press conference on November 22, 2025, that “an investigation is underway into why the perpetrator was killed at the scene; because the perpetrator was apprehended, and moments later there was a struggle, and a single shot was fired that killed him.” The attack, which occurred during the Candle Festival in the public square for the Day of the Dead, compromised the safety of 14 members of the National Guard and 8 bodyguards of the municipal president Manzo Rodríguez.
