US President Donald Trump threatened Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Wednesday, saying he would be “next” after Nicolás Maduro because his country “is producing a lot of drugs” destined for the United States. This came after the Republican ordered the seizure of an oil tanker in Venezuelan waters amid tensions between the two countries.
In a press conference held this afternoon in the Oval Office of the White House, the Republican said that Petro “has been quite hostile toward the United States.” The president made this statement following a series of accusations the Colombian president has been making against the US’s illegal attacks on vessels belonging to alleged drug traffickers.
This warning is a direct allusion to the pressure his administration is exerting on Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, whom he considers the leader of the Cartel of the Suns, which traffics drugs to the United States.
